PEONIES

 

 

There’s a petal already,
       Or two, falling off in the wind;

The peony in spring
       Knows its beauty will soon come to end.

It’s the Natural Law–
       No matter how much we lament, –

All must vanish sometime
       To return and to bloom once again.
